We made it a little more than half way after we left the zoo on Saturday and Tylee slept like a champ for most of it. We stopped in Mitchell, SD to get some rest for the night and little did we know - our motel had an indoor water park! Okay, so I did know because EVERY motel in SD and ND had little play area's and water slides in their swimming pool. That is strange to me but apparently when the temperatures stay below freezing for a majority of the year, indoor pools are necessary. Useless knowledge but interesting tidbit!
We swam that evening and then woke up again first thing in the morning to swim some more. See Tylee's swolen eyes? We had to get on the road but wanted to her make the most of the Pirate Ship. Also note how much luggage we drug in the motel for a one-night stay. We were there less than 12 hours!
When we finally got on the road and headed North. Everything was so desloate - it was surreal. There was nothing for miles. And miles. And miles. I could not get over how pretty it was. And supposedly this isn't even the prettiest part of South Dakota!
Tylee was a champ in the car the entire time. She was stocked with books, her DVD Player, her Leapster, snacks, coloring books, stickers...the list goes on, but I was so proud of her for being so good after being in the car for that long.
Part two of our trip was not overly exciting. It basically involved me sitting in class while Tj and Tylee played tourist in Bismarck, ND. We ate lots of good meals, shopped, and swam in the pool every night. Even though it wasn't anything spectacular, it was good to get away from cooking, cleaning, and day-to-day life for a week - just our little family.
